THREE APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED FOR THE SAME BRIGG STREET

A lengthy Brigg street is keeping North Lincolnshire planners busy with three applications submitted.
One was recently decided by the local authority; now two others are awaiting council rulings.
Permission is being sought to erect a detached garage & games room with storage space above and for the erection of a car port to the side of 12 Wrawby Road.
This detached property within the Conservation Area is located not far from the Monument roundabout and Glanford Road.
A statement submitted to the council on behalf of the householders says: "The proposal has been designed and sited so that it is in keeping with the character and appearance of the surrounding area and with its high-quality design will improve the character and appearance of the area in general."
The unitary authority will decide this application at a future date, having now established a public consultation period which ends on June 15.
The council, which had already granted planning permission for a detached property to be built on Wrawby Road, has now approved an amendment to permit the installation of solar panels on rear roof slopes instead of a gable.
This house is under construction on land adjacent the Cemetery Lodge, 30 Wrawby Road (facing the A18 and opposite the entrance to Brigg Recreation Ground).
A council assessment report on this 'non-material amendment' said: "The proposed changes are minor and are not considered to be at odds with the visual amenity of the street scene and will allow the building to function in accordance with the requirements of the homeowners whilst seeking to create a more environmentally friendly home through the use of renewable energy.
"The proposed panels will be sunken into the roof rather than sitting on the top of the tiles. This will ensure they do not project above the existing roof level."
Planning permission is being sought to site a mobile residential home to accommodate live-in workers associated with the existing special needs school (Robert Holme Academy) at Fircroft, 3 Wrawby Road (adjoining Health Place). View details here...

VERY UNUSUAL: BROUGHTON WIN CRICKET MATCH 1-0

While a former Brigg cricketer was compiling a century, elsewhere in the Mick Walker North Lindsey League there was a very unusual match-winning margin in a game involving Broughton.
In Mick Walker Trophy Group C on Sunday (May 29), Outcasts made a splendid start at Broughton 3rds, reaching 88 without loss after 18 overs.
However, heavy rain led to an abandonment and consequently a bowl-out at the unguarded stumps - the cricketing equivalent of football's penalty shoot-out.
This produced a soccer-like score, 1-0, as Broughton's Lewis Parker was the only player to dislodge the bails.
His side now need a point against Normanby Park on June 19 to win their group and progress further in the competition.
Ex-Brigg strokemaker Dale Coy (pictured top left) hit a century for Messingham on Sunday in the Mick Walker Trophy.
He cracked an unbeaten 110 against Hibaldstow  - another of his former clubs.
Thanks to Dale's knock and 68 from Joshua Joy, Messingham scored a highly impressive 211 without loss.
They then restricted home side Hibaldstow 2nds to 142 for six, Lee Robinson top scoring with 69 and Manej Subramaniam scoring 33.
Sunday's result means the game between Messingham and Scunthorpe Town 4ths on June 19 will determine who tops the table in Group B.
Meanwhile, in the Lincolnshire County Cricket League's Supplementary Cup, details of the semi-finals have been announced, following the completion of the qualifying groups at the weekend.
Although Brigg Town have not made it through to the knockout stage, Broughton 2nds have and will host cup-holders Barton Town 2nds on Saturday, June 25.
The other semi will be Outcasts 2nds v Caistor 2nds on June 18. 

SOME AMENDED BRIGG TESCO STORE OPENING HOURS DURING THE PLATINUM JUBILEE PERIOD

 

Shoppers should note that the Tesco store in Brigg will have some amended opening hours during the period of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
On Bank Holiday Thursday (June 2) and Bank Holiday Friday (June 3) our Barnard Avenue Tesco will open from 6am to 8pm each day (closing earlier than usual).
'Normal hours' (6am to 11pm) will apply on Saturday, while Sunday opening will be the usual 10am to 4pm.
Many Brigg homes and business premises are now decorated in readiness for the Jubilee.
We took some pictures showing domestic properties which caught our eye on St Helens Road and also photographed a few of the businesses in the town centre adorned with flags, bunting and royal displays.
The Sue Ryder Shop, on Springs Parade, has souvenir plates in the front window from Her Majesty's Silver Jubilee in 1977 and her Golden Jubilee in 2002. The Queen came to Brigg Recreation Ground in 1977 to watch a pageant as she marked her 25th year as monarch.
The Oxfam Book Shop, on Wrawby Street, has some royal books in its current front window display.
Among those flying the flag is Wallhead's - Brigg outfitters founded back in 1897, the year of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee.
Elizabeth Court residents, on the Springbank estate, have every reason to celebrate over the coming days. Their homes were built early in the current Queen's reign and named accordingly.

People should note that North Lincolnshire Council's Library/Hub in the Angel building will be closed on Thursday (June 2) and Friday (June 3), these being bank holidays.

 

 

 

PICTURED: THE BIGGEST MOBILE CRANE TO VISIT BRIGG?

Brigg residents and people visiting the town were having to crane their necks to view the top of the visitor pictured here.
Could the Emsley mobile crane sited on the new Falcon housing development off Bridge Street be the tallest seen in the town?
We spotted it on Thursday from the Market Place and went to take a closer look from Bridge Street and Island Carr Road, near the car wash.
An estate of almost 70 new homes is being built on the former cycle factory site - access being gained from the A18 along a new road called Falcon Way.
Meanwhile, fronting Bridge Street, a block of apartments is taking shape - Bridge Court.
Smaller mobile cranes visit Island Carr in the Autumn and Spring to lift craft moored at Glanford Boat Club into and out of the River Ancholme.

 

 

40 PICTURES: KEYO BRIGG BOMBER MAY 2022 COMPETITORS NEAR THE RIVER ANCHOLME YESTERDAY

Keyo Brigg Bomber Quadrathlon and Triathlon competitors came to Brigg yesterday (Sunday, May 29, 2022).
Members of local event organising group Lincsquad joined those from who arrived from other areas for some locally-sponsored endurance sport.
Headquarters was the Ancholme Leisure Centre at Scawby Brook, and there was river swimming, kayaking, cycling and running to test the entrants.
The 40 pictures seen here show the latter section which took competitors along Bridge Street, Brigg, and the Ancholme Valley Way heading north.
There was a Middle Distance Quad, a Sprint Distance Quad and a Triathlon.
