NEW SPORT MAKES DEBUT AT BRIGG SCHOOL

FROM JON TAYLOR, SIR JOHN NELTHORPE SCHOOL

We played our first ever rugby game - against North Lindsey College.
There are a few photographs on the school Twitter page.
The boys played a strong North Lindsey team who have been getting regular coaching in a rugby academy, but all our students loved the experience.
Gareth Short, from the RFU, opened the occasion and Tom Nelthorpe, Keith Robinson (from Scunthorpe Rugby Club) and Robert Biglands (headteacher) were in attendance.
We lost 7-40.

N.F. ADDS: This is a very welcome step forward for Brigg sport.  Blog followers may recall a picture we posted a few weeks ago of the newly-erected rugby posts on the SJN school field - the first indication of another sport coming to town. Even in our day at Brigg Grammar (late 1960s/early 1970s) we had football, cricket and a bit of hockey but never organised rugby on a proper pitch with posts!

They've got to try, Nige. As a progressive school they need to line out new ideas and convert them into reality to get a result.

While on the subject of rugger, I was surprised to see the game between Australia and New Zealand yesterday being played at Anfield.
While on the subject of Anfield, which football team first played at the ground?
Answer: Everton.(previously St Mungo's Methodist Church Lads)..they move to Goodison and Everton's 2nd team (Liverpool) remained at Anfield...so Liverpool FC was originally Everton 2nd Eleven.....
