Stable staff who parade the best turned out racehorses at Market Rasen Racecourse in fixtures during the first half of 2016 are to win £1,000 - courtesy of Pipers Crisps, of Elsham, and the racecourse itself.
The prize will be presented during Summer Plate Day on Saturday, 16th July - one of the most popular fixtures of the year.
The racehorse training yard which has the largest number of ‘best turned out’ awards during fixtures between January and July will also receive a consignment of crisps from the company that was founded in the county 12 years ago by three farmers.
Alex Albone, Brand Owner at Pipers Crisps, said: “Stable staff are the unsung heroes and heroines of the sport of horseracing – as 20-time champion jump jockey Sir Anthony McCoy said in his speech during BBC Sports Personality of the Year last month - and we are delighted to play our part in rewarding them for their efforts in looking after their horses and making racing days at Market Rasen Racecourse such a success.”
The reward has been warmly received by stable staff.
George McGrath, the Chief Executive of National Association of Stable Staff, said: “We welcome the initiative shown by Market Rasen Racecourse and Pipers Crisps in recognising the hard work the racing staff put into getting their horses looking their best.
“Not only do the staff work hard to get the horses looking great, they also make a great effort to make themselves look smart, not an easy task when you consider the nature of the work.
“Hopefully this will encourage other racecourses to follow the wonderful example shown by Market Rasen which is punching above its weight in terms of looking after the racing staff.”
Market Rasen Racecourse is staging 22 jump racing meetings in 2016 (the season begins on Friday, 22nd January) and is a leading conference and events centre in the East Midlands. More information is available at www.marketrasenraces.co.uk
