After almost 60 years living in Brigg, we can apply the phrase ‘been there, done it, got the T-shirt’ to many aspects of life in the town.
But still on our ‘ to do’ list is getting a bird’s eye view of the town centre from the former brewery tower, off Wrawby Street.
Our friend Ken Harrison was permitted to do so some years ago by the then owner, and took some interesting pictures from this lofty location.
Planning permission was later granted, in October 2013, for the disused former fire station to be refurbished and brought back into commercial and residential use, the application being for a self-contained flat.
A report prepared by North Lincolnshire Council when it was considering the application said that although not a listed building, the old fire station “is considered important in terms of history” and that bringing it back into use “will tidy up the street scene.”
The Cups & Cones ice cream parlour now occupies the ground floor section, fronting Wrawby Street.
As we walked along Queen Street at the weekend we noticed this sign (pictured below) pointing the way to Tower House, Britannia Court.
From the beer garden of the Britannia Inn you can get a better view of the top of the tower than the one below we took from Queen Street.
We think the tower was once part of the Sutton Bean Brewery. It’s always pleasing to see new uses for old Brigg buildings.
In this case, we have no hesitation in awarding HIGH marks!
