THE FUTURE OF THE BRIGG HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL

Brigg Town Council discussed a sensitive subject - the Holocaust Memorial, which is in the Courtyard of the Angel building.
The Memorial is in memory of millions of people who died, and every January a solemn  Sunday ceremony is held alongside it.
An eatery has now been established in this area of the Angel, and Coun Rob Waltham, chairman of the Town Council's Property & Services Committee, said having the Memorial within a trading cafe might be seen as a bit insensitive.
He suggested the current Memorial had "got old" and it was time to consider providing something more permanent. The way forward was to consult with the community and perhaps establish a working group.
Town Mayor Coun James Truepenny suggested contacting former Brigg  Town councillors Michael Doherty and the Rev Alec Depledge, in view of their long connections with the Memorial.
Deputy Town Mayor Coun Ann Eardley thought a new marble Memorial with a star on top might be considered.
