How about some outdoor cricket practice nets for Brigg Recreation Ground as the next phase in the acclaimed revamp of facilities by North Lincolnshire Council?
Player with the Brigg Town Club, Dave Jollands, has sent us a link to a Facebook page on which a company called Total-play Ltd posted details of a new synthetic cricket practice nets facility installed at Normanby Park Cricket Club, just outside Scunthorpe.
Normanby Park, like Brigg Town, play in the Lincolnshire County Cricket League.
Normanby spokesman Paul Cowling says some club members have already tried the new facility "even though its the middle of winter" and they can’t wait to use it to its full potential during the forthcoming season. Read more here....
Dave Jollands suggests that we need nets like these in Brigg.
Various grants are available, including funds from the national governing body of cricket, the ECB.
Back in the mid-1970s, Glanford Borough Council installed good standard nets which Brigg Town Cricket Club used for Monday night practices throughout the playing season.
During the winter, we used an indoor net at the now demolished Vale Sports Hall, off Grammar School Road.
Nets were also made available by the council at Ancholme Leisure Centre's Sports Hall, in Scawby Brook.
Brigg Grammar School and later Sir John Nelthorpe School had some super outdoor nets at various locations on the edge of the playing field.
Net practice during the cricket season is much more useful to players than sessions during the winter, for obvious reasons. So we regard Dave Jollands' suggestion as being a sound one that's worthy of consideration.
Maybe Brigg Town CC will consider making a written request to North Lincolnshire Council, as the first step in the process.
