COMPOST TOILET 'PERFECT' FOR COMMUNITY BUILDING NEAR BRIGG

A most unusual planning application relating to a community-use building near Brigg in now being considered by North Lincolnshire Council.
Approval is being sought for a wheelchair-accessible dry composting toilet at All Saints' Church Hall, Vicarage Lane, Cadney.
A Heritage Report submitted with the application explains that since taking on the refurbishment of the Church Hall in 2014, the applicants have been aware that the lack of a toilet may restrict the activities carried out.
An extension to the hall to provide a disabled toilet to comply with all regulations proved beyond budget. However, an eco toilet, still meeting all the regulations, "is perfect."
Planners have been told that many churches in Lincolnshire, and beyond, have found a compost toilet to be the solution to the problem of providing facilities in, or next to, listed buildings, where limited groundworks can be carried out.
The proposed toilet will be within the curtilage of the church - on spare land between the edge of the churchyard and Church Hall. 
"However, its design and location will not affect the church outlook - a timber building, with slate roof, and it will be stained/painted in a rustic dark colour to blend in with the background," say the applicants. 
"The path leading up to it will be of similar materials to the existing Church Hall path. Any signage will be small and discrete."
Planners at North Lincolnshire Council are now considering the application.
