BRIGG FOLK TO SAMPLE 'THE SPORT OF KINGS' ON NEW RACING DAY

Thousands of people, including some from the Brigg areas, are set to descend on Market Rasen Racecourse to sample the Sport of Kings at the ‘New to Racing’ day.
Lincolnshire’s only racecourse is offering a warm welcome for everyone on Sunday, 15th May, especially for those people who may never have been to the races before.
To add to the occasion, an array of activities and attractions is being laid on with families and first-time visitors in mind.
Spectators will be able to:
go behind the scenes on tours of the inner sanctum of the Weighing Room, see fences close up and tour the parade ring;
  • find out what it’s like to be a jockey by riding an Equicizer and trying on jockey silks;
  • go to the start of one of the races;
  • talk to the experts – the racehorse owners, trainers, jockey and vets;
  • view a farrier demonstration;
  • watch a parade of retired racehorses who now have new careers;
  • find out about how to place a bet from Tote experts;
  • and take part in the BIG Jigsaw Challenge and enjoy other free entertainments, like a bouncy castle, inflatable slide and pony hoppers.

Nadia Gollings, General Manager, Market Rasen Racecourse (pictured above), said: “Our ‘New to Racing’ day is an innovation for 2016 and the fun events we are laying on are sure to be popular with visitors.
“Sundays are traditionally family days at Market Rasen Racecourse. I hope the racing and the trackside events will entice regular and new visitors alike, especially as it is a great chance for an affordable day out with all accompanied under 18s admitted free of charge.
“We know some people find horse racing a complex sport, and on this day we will try to answer everyone’s questions - though sadly even we cannot include finding all the winning horses amongst what all that we have on offer!”
Before racing starts at 2.10pm, the popular Punters’ Panel led by race-day presenter Mike Vince will guide visitors through the day’s horse racing and – perhaps be able to - pinpoint some winners.
The racecourse opens on Sunday, 15th May at 12.10pm, two hours before the first race. Admission tickets are from just £7.20 in advance.
Tickets for all meetings can be purchased in advance at a discount athttp://marketrasen.thejockeyclub.co.uk or through the ticket line on 0344 579 3009.
