NEW COMMUNITY RESPONDER SERVICE TO BENEFIT THE VULNERABLE IN BRIGG

From 1 May, North Lincolnshire Council will introduce a brand new Community Responder Service to support vulnerable adults.
The new service will operate across North Lincolnshire and will be available 24 hours, 365 days a year and will build on the existing Community Wellbeing Hubs.
It will deliver services through a targeted approach to those who need it and will enable vulnerable adults to remain active and live independently for as long as possible.
Coun  Julie Reed, Cabinet Member for Adult Services at North Lincolnshire Council, said:  “The existing contract ends on 30 June, so we took the opportunity to review the service that is currently provided.
“We consulted and listened to what people had to say and this has helped us design the new service. Adults said they wanted support to access activities in their community, a responder who can attend at any time of the day or night and a service that would offer flexible support.
“As more people value their independence, we wanted to give people a service that better suits their needs. We will be able to detect problems early and provide key support to enable more people to be independent for as long as possible.
“This is a major change in the way that we deliver services for adults. We will work with other agencies to provide the right level of support to enable more people to live longer in their own homes. It will enable communities to thrive, live active and healthy lives and support the most vulnerable.
“We will continue to work with the existing provider to ensure that people currently receiving a service will receive information about the new service.”
Key findings of the consultation:

  • Would like regular contact with someone
  • Needed support to access activities in their community
  • Liked to have someone to talk to
  • Said they would benefit from flexible support
  • Wanted to know what is available in their local community
  • Would like any activities to be local
  • Needed a responder
  • who can attend at any time of the day or night
