BRIGG SHOPPING ARCHES UPDATE

Further to Brigg Blog's post about a proposed scheme to put arches on some of our courtyards to direct shoppers to the town centre,  we observed a group of people the other afternoon, some with clipboards, inspecting entrances to the alleyways.
They included some hard-working members of the Brigg Town Business Partnership.
This may have been a bit of preliminary work, ahead of the public "launch"  of the arches project consultation exercise later this month.
We see this as a very welcome development and hope townspeople pledge their support when the time comes.
It's also an opportune time for Brigg Blog to again climb onto our old hobby-horse and suggest it's high time the ugly "temporary" wooden fencing on two sides of the Old Courts Road car park was replaced with some black and gold railings of the attractive kind to be observed around the County Bridge.
This wooden fencing has been there far too long and is the first thing visitors to Brigg see after they have parked their cars and headed off  to take a look around our shops and attractions.
It won't be cheap to erect metal railings but could be done in stages, with the stretch closest to the Black Bull car park and the rear of Costa Coffee done first and the area nearest the Barnard Avenue traffic lights left until a later date when further funds can be made available.

......and there has been some exploratory work to establish the ownership of the generally ugly sites behind the high street shop, facing Old Courts Rd.
My understanding it that some are privately owned, but others don't appear to have a recognised owner.
I believe that the 'arches' idea is part of a bigger scheme to improve the rough image which blights the area.
