CANDLE VIGIL

Town Mayor Coun Ben Nobbs plans to undertake a vigil centred on the Bandstand in Brigg Market Place on Thursday, January 27 (10am to approximately 3.30pm) to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. He will be lighting a candle, positioning it in the Bandstand, with a poster, and will be nearby to talk to anyone seeking further information on the topic.
The Town Council will continue to hold its usual Memorial Exhibition and Ceremony, further details of which will appear in Brigg Blog nearer the time.

It is very sobering that we still have Holocaust deniers ..... even some politcal parties suggest that the Holocaust was not as extreme, or extensive as the evidence indicates.

On sad episode in English history happened in the C12th: Crusader fervour engendered nationalistic, religious hatred of Jews.
In 1190 the Jewish population of York was rounded up on secured in a wodden keep, not represented by the stone-built Clifford Tower.
Anomosiy was so intense that some Jewish family committed communal suicide, before the wooden structure was set alight.
Historically, his event is known as the York Holocaust.

800 years later some deluded people still have the same attitude.
