FANTASTIC BRIGG SCHOOL SUMMER SPORTS REUNION
The Briggensians' Association 2018 summer sports reunion cricket match at Sir John Nelthope School in Brigg proved enjoyable.
A team of Old Boys played The School in a traditional fixture originally established in the 1920s when Brigg Grammar School was still providing secondary education.
Brigg Blog was very disappointed to have to decline an invitation to take part, as we had to be at a very important cricket league meeting elsewhere.
We are delighted to see this traditional fixture continue for another year.
PICTURES AND REPORT FROM JON TAYLOR
We played the old boys cricket match - the first old boys' game on our new pitch.
The old boys - Nick Beacock, David Baggott, David Willey, Tony Beel, Paul Neal, Simon Dixon, Liam Redmond, Mark Dawson, Adam Dunderdale and Kieran Brooker - won the toss and put the young boys in to bat.
The young boys scored 59 in a total of 14 overs with a notable performance from the Year 7 student Matthew Oades, who scored 22 before being run out on the final ball of the innings.
The early wickets of George Thomas and Owen Dunderdale had gone for 1 and 4.
Captain Tom Donnelly scored 8 before being bowled by Baggott, Brett Howden scored 5 and a late cameo performance by Alex Smith, including 2 fours and a six, took the young boys to their total.
The old boys managed to reach their target in the 12th over.
David Baggott hit 3 sixes in gaining 19 before retirement. Tony Beel was run out without scoring by a very sharp throw from Owen Dunderdale.
Opener Dixon scored 12 in singles, Willey scored 4, Brooker (Caistor's first team captain) scored 14 and Redmond also scored a quick 14.
All those who turned up had a fantastic evening.
I would once again like to thank Brigg Biomass for the grant we received for the new pitch and the contribution made from the Briggensians' Association.
I would also like to thank Helen Annis for helping write the bid.

BRIGG FOOTBALL COMPETITION HELPS LINCS & NOTTS AIR AMBULANCE AND LINDSEY LODGE HOSPICE IN SCUNTHORPE
Some years ago, Brigg Blog was delighted to report that the historic Hett Cup
was again being played for by local footballers taking part in a competition raising funds for good causes and hosted by Brigg Town FC at its Hawthorns ground.
This cup was donated to local sport more than 100 years ago and carries the name of a family very well-known in and around Brigg.
Martin North, of Brigg, as spokesman for the current Hett Cup, now tells us that part of the proceeds from this year's competition, £300, have been donated to the Air Ambulance, with the same amount going to the Lindsey Lodge Hospice in Scunthorpe.
Martin has thanked all players, officials and supporters at Brigg Town Football Club "for their continued support."
He contacted Brigg Blog after reading our recent post about Jason Walkley, the former Brigg Juniors footballer, who is to undertake a major fundraiser for the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance. Read the story through this link...
The full title of the handsome trophy pictured above is The Hett Football Charity Cup, and it was first used during the 1912/1913 season.
Lindsey Lodge Hospice has a charity shop on Wrawby Street, Brigg.

CHANCE TO MEET PETER RABBIT IN BRIGG
Peter Rabbit will be visiting Brigg on the birthday of his creator, famous author Beatrix Potter.
The furry character - a great favourite with children - will be at The Rabbit Hole bookshop and will also be out and about in the town centre on Saturday, July 28.
He will be visiting the shop at 10am, noon and 2pm, say proprietors Nick and Mel, who kindly supplied the picture above.
Peter Rabbit books and gifts will be on sale, together with activities for children linked to Peter Rabbit and Beatrix Potter.
She was born in London on July 28, 1866, and The Tale of Peter Rabbit dates from 1902.
Brigg Blog suggests that Peter will give Coney Court a miss - for reasons obvious to those who know a bit about the history of our town!

FUN WEEKEND FOR BRIGG PUBS
It proved to be a busy night for a number of Brigg pubs last night (Saturday, July 21).
There were big birthday celebrations, accompanied by a group playing live, at the Lord Nelson, and musical entertainment across the Market Place at the Woolpack.
Meanwhile, down at the Britannia Inn, on Wrawby Street, some people who'd been to the Market Rasen race meeting helped swell the attendance.
Karaoke in the bar proved popular and there was a fun atmosphere, as demonstrated by the picture above.
Just a reminder that today (Sunday, July 22) mine host at the Dying Gladiator, Eugene Irwin, celebrates five years in charge of the Bigby Street hostelry.
Local band The Dirty Pitchers will be performing Britpop songs in the beer garden, with a barbeque to follow and further music.
