BRIGGENSIANS IN CUP ACTION AGAIN TODAY

Brigg Amateur footballers Briggensians FC are in cup action once again today (Saturday, December 12).
Briggensians will be playing in round two of the Johnsons Transport Ironstone Cup.
This inolves a visit to AFC Queensway, who also play in division three of the TSW Printers Scunthorpe & District Football League.
Last Saturday saw Briggensians beaten 13-1 in the third round of the Challenge Cup, in which they visited top-flight Limestone Rangers.

FIRST BATCH: PICTURES OF BRIGG CHRISTMAS LIGHTS 2015 SWITCH-ON, LIONS' FAYRE & LATE NIGHT SHOPPING

Much later than planned, due to internet connection issues, here's a selection of pictures taken during the Brigg Christmas lights switch-on, Brigg District Lions' Christmas Fayre/Market and the late night shopping event. PICTURES BY KEN HARRISON.
Just to make things clear: The pantomime stars at this year's Christmas lights switch-on came from the cast of Snow White at Grimsby Auditorium, not the Plowright Theatre in Scunthorpe, which is usually the case.
Local primary school children, who  won our colouring competition, were invited along to the official switch-on  ceremony.

BRIGG LANDMARK'S LAST DAY?

The cast iron Victorian footbridge at Brigg railway station is expected to be used for the final time today (Saturday).
A new footbridge, some yards away, is to be installed, spanning the two platforms, for Network Rail.
Demolition of the old structure, which has served the town well since at least the 1890s, will be undertaken at some point in the not too distant future.
Brigg only receives passenger trains on Saturdays. The final one, with the old footbridge still in place, will arrive early this evening.
Our picture  from the past shows a freight train passing under the footbridge.

PLACE YOUR BRIGG TREE OF LIGHT MESSAGE

FROM DEB DUNDERDALE

As part of our Christmas campaign, Brigg Town Business Partnership is for the very first time organising a Tree of Light or a Remembrance Tree.
This tree will stand proudly in Chapel Court (just off the Old Courts car park). It will be lit from Friday, December 4th until Wednesday 6th January 2016.
Hopefully this will be seen as a symbol of hope and comfort for the many people who find Christmas a sad and lonely time.
This provides an opportunity for all members of the community to place a memory card on the tree in remembrance of departed loved ones.
The cards can be found at Design Orchard, Rosa (Chapel Court), Brigg Tourist Information, St John’s Church, and Brigg Methodist Church.
All monies raised will be donated to the Carers’ Support Centre in Brigg they touch the lives of many local individuals and families through difficult times and beyond.
