FLOODING CONCERN ON NEWLANDS ESTATE IN BRIGG

The issue of flooding at/near Kingsway bungalows on the Newlands Estate in Brigg was raised at the Town Council's latest meeting by Coun Ann Eardley.
Town  Mayor Councillor Carl Sherwood replied: "We will get North Lincolnshire onto it."
Both he and Coun Rob Waltham - also at the meeting - are members of the cabinet at the unitary authority.

BRIGG BUTTERCROSS MAY BE NEARLY 200 YEARS OLD BUT ISN'T SHOWING ITS AGE

These fine, recently taken, after dark pictures by Ken Harrison, of Wrawby, have a Dickensian or Victorian feel to them. The Buttercross is not far short of 200 years old but is being well cared for by North Lincolnshire Council.

SECOND BRIGG BRIDGE REVAMP

Brief reference was made at the latest Brigg Town Council to a "good job being done on the bridge."
We thought it unlikely the County Bridge was getting any further treatment, so we had a walk down Elwes Street/Cadney Road and soon spotted the nicely repainted railings where the C-road adjoining the Old River Ancholme passes over the first (or last?) few yards of Candley Beck.

DID YOU KNOW BRIGG HAS A GAS HOUSE?

In the area of Brigg where the old gasworks stood decades ago, close to the Old River Ancholme and at the very end of the Lidl store car park, is a brick building belonging to Anglian Water. It's surrounded by a security fence and few people afford it a second glance. But there is a small notice informing passers-by they are gazing upon the Brigg Gas House.
Can any Brigg Blog followers explain its purpose? If not, we'll email the company press office and see whether they are forthcoming.

HELP MAKE THE JOB OF OUR OWN CARTMAN A BIT EASIER ON SOUTH PARK IN BRIGG

Having just posted on Brigg Blog about the hard work put in by town street cleaner Lol Hartmann, we walked past the Tintabs shelter near the Monument and spotted that someone had eaten their fast food meal and just left the wrappings on the seat. Yet only a few yards away, in South Park, were TWO available litter bins.

There's even a special litter bin near the Tintabs wide enough to take pizza boxes.
Just a bit of thought and consideration would help make Lol's job that bit easier.
We have flagged up this issue before on Brigg Blog - but not for many months.

CALL FOR BOW WINDOW TO BE REOPENED AT BRIGG TOWN CENTRE CHIPPIE

Brigg Town Councillor Chris Dyson has suggested that Scalini's fish and chip shop in Wrawby Street should be encouraged to reinstate this bow window on their property, as part of their intended renovation programme.
The side window - looking onto Little Butchery which connects Bigby Street and Wrawby Street - was still in use when the building was operated by W H Smith, the national chain, many years ago.
Scalini's are currently asking North Lincolnshire Council for permission to adopt this listed building to provide a restaurant on the first floor, in addition to the existing shop.
Coun Dyson's suggestion has been supported by the Brigg Town Council Planning and Environment Committee.
Coun Ben Nobbs said it would be nice to see the window restored.
Coun Jackie Brock agreed as long as doing so would not cause undue problems for the proprietor.
