Brigg Town Football Club and its many followers have received an early Christmas present.
The league in which the Zebras' first team plays has now announced that matches are soon to begin again, having been postponed for some weeks due to Coronavirus emergency restrictions.
The ToolStation Northern Counties East League says that following news yesterday (Thursday) that a limited number of spectators are to be allowed back into matches taking place in Tier 3 Covid-19 restricted areas, the resumption of the NCEL has been announced.
At yesterday's League Management Board meeting "it was decided to resume as soon as feasible, so the campaign will restart on Saturday, December 19."
The league adds that matches originally scheduled for that day, and for Boxing Day, will be added back into the Toolstation NCEL fixtures schedule.
Brigg are to visit Hallam for a Division One game on Saturday, December 19 and then have a Christmas home fixture against Skegness on Saturday, December 26 at the EC Surfacing Stadium (Hawthorns).
Brigg are currently third in the table, having made a fine start to the campaign.
The NCEL says the Football Association has announced that a limited number of spectators will be able to attend 'non-elite' matches at clubs in Tier 3 restricted areas after updated advice from the Government. Brigg falls into this category.
Under the new guidelines, clubs in Tier 3 areas can have up to 150 home spectators at their matches.
As yet it is unclear whether, or when, football will resume in the currently suspended Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincolnshire League Premier (involving Brigg Town Reserves) and the EC Surfacing Scunthorpe & District League, in which Briggensians, Barnetby United and Barnetby Reserves take part on Saturdays.
