Nic Dakin - seen here in Brigg town centre while supporting local Pancreatic Cancer group fundraising - has been awarded a knighthood in the Queen's Birthday Honours List, which was delayed until October 2020.
While he was Scunthorpe's Member of Parliament, his constituency included communities near Brigg, including Scawby, Hibaldstow and Broughton.
Sir Nic is a former principal of John Leggott College, Scunthorpe, which many Brigg students attended during his tenure.
He was the Leader of North Lincolnshire Council prior to being elected Scunthorpe MP in 2010, representing the constituency for nine years and also serving as a Labour Party whip in Parliament.
In the 2019 General Election he was defeated by Conservative candidate Holly Mumby-Croft, from Broughton, a former pupil of Sir John Nelthorpe School, Brigg.
Sir Nic's honour is for contributions to further education and politics.
Our archive picture, taken by Ken Harrison of Brigg Matters Magazine, shows him in the Market Place with local charity fundraisers Zoe Hall and Andrew 'Sass' Markham on farmers' market Saturday stall. Nic was elected chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Pancreatic Cancer. He has been to Brigg to support the local group on many occasions.
