A landmark building in Brigg town centre celebrated its 200th anniversary.
We wish a slightly belated happy birthday to the Buttercross, in the Market Place.
Brigg Heritage Centre, which is closely connected with this grade two listed building, held a special Celebration Evening on Friday.
Ken Harrison, from Brigg Matters Magazine, was there and has kindly supplied these pictures taken at the event. Watch out for coverage in the magazine's next issue.
Music was provided by the Folklings and a Sir John Nelthorpe School Ensemble.
Among those present were the Mayor, Mayoress, Leader and Deputy Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, Coun Sharon Riggall (the Town Mayor of Brigg) plus Town Council members and staff.
Brigg Heritage Centre and the Tourist Information Centre were also represented, as were a number of various Brigg groups and organisations.
Back on June 28, 1819 a ball was held to mark the opening of the Buttercross.
Financial support to construct the building came from the land and property-owning Nelthorpe and Elwes families.
It was originally open at the sides, at ground level, with produce being sold to local people - hence the name.
The building also took on an important local government role, being used as offices and a meetings venue by Brigg Urban District Council for many decades until 1969/70 when a new building was constructed by the UDC on Cary Lane.
The Buttercross was refurbished late last year, in readiness for the anniversary, particular attention being paid to the clocktower, weather vane and the plaque unveiled by Princess Diana when she visited the building in 1988.
It is best known today as the base of the town's award-winning Tourist Information Centre, operated by North Lincolnshire Council. It's located on the ground floor, but above is the ornate room, pictured here, that can be hired for a range of functions and events.
