During its first meeting of the new year, Brigg Town Council was already discussing the Christmas lights for the next festive season, starting at the beginning of December 2017.
There was mention of a possible change in the Friday night festivities, with the familiar stage in the Market Place being replaced by use of a balcony at the front of the Angel building.
A temporary stage is usually erected to be used during the official swich-on ceremony for the Christmas illuminations, and also by pantomime cast members as a base to entertain the crowd, including throwing handfuls of sweets to youngsters.
It costs money to put up and take down the stage, whereas the balcony is a permanent feature of the town centre. It is also higher up, meaning kids in the audience should get a better view of the proceedings than at present.
Adverse comments have been reported about the amount of room the temporary stage takes up - space which might be used for additional stalls, perhaps, on the adjoining Brigg District Lions' Christmas Fair.
People also have to negotiate a way round the stage during what is Brigg's biggest spectator event.
As yet, no decision has been made on using the balcony rather than the stage. But it's already a talking point. We expect this topic to be revised by town councillors at a future meeting.
