FROM COUN THE REV ALEC DEPLEDGE, DEPUTY TOWN MAYOR OF BRIGG AND TOWN MAYOR'S CHAPLAIN
Following our Ministers' Fraternal Meeting yesterday I'm
pleased to attach a document with an update re. the Brigg Food Bank, along
with details of an upcoming public event, training opportunities for volunteers,
who wish to become involved, and, not least, the proposed date for its official
launch.
REQUEST FOR HELP AND SUPPORT
In December 2012 and March 2013 the Brigg Ministers Fraternal received representations from both the Barton and Scunthorpe Food Banks respectively regarding the needs of people living within Brigg and the surrounding villages for short term emergency help and assistance. They emphasised the need for something to be set up in Brigg to help address this need specifically to help counter the need for people who cannot afford food to travel to get the help.
As a result of this The Brigg Ministers Fraternal felt strongly that we needed to respond to this need in our community.
We are now in the process of launching a Food Bank in Brigg to help people with short term emergency help in Brigg and the surrounding villages.
The task ahead of us is one that will require the church and community to get behind in order for
it to succeed. In the next few weeks we will also begin the process of raising awareness within
the Brigg churches and the wider community for volunteers to help staff the various tasks, collect food and staff the storage facility and distribution sessions.
We would therefore be very grateful if you could consider any help you may deem appropriate both financially food donations or voluntarily to help us in the venture.
We look forward to working with the Brigg Churches, Groups and wider community on this
project as we seek to help the people of Brigg and surrounding area.
Throughout September there will be various meetings for volunteers to attend as follows:
September 5th, 7.30 at St. Mary’s Church Hall - Community Vision Sharing Meeting
September 10th, 12pm - 1pm at St. Mary’s Church Hall - Agency Training Session
September 18th, 10am - 2pm at St. Mary’s Church Hall - Volunteer Training Event
October 4th 1pm - 3pm at St. Mary’s Church Hall - Official Launch
