Further to Nigel's recent comments on waxwings, while grouting some shower tiles, my attention was drawn to a discussion on Radio 4. The experts indicated that waxwings could be seen from the end of October to March during their migration from Scandinavia. Interestingly, they added that the best, or likely places to spot waxwings were supermarket car-parks. They even listed supermarkets in order with Tesco being one of the best, qualifying their findings by indicating that such emporiums landscape their car parks with cotoneaster (a genus of the rose family) shrubs - the berries of which waxwings are particularly fond. By contrast, Lidl's came at the bottom of the list.
