MORE BRIGG FOLK ASKED TO RECYCLE OLD CLOTHES AND TEXTILES

Brigg households are used to the brown, green and red recycling bins and the blue and green kerbside boxes. But more of us are now being asked to recycle old clothing and textiles.
North Lincolnshire Council is looking at ways to increase the amount of recycling.
From this week the council and SITA (the kerbside box collections contractor) will be jointly donating £35 to Lindsey Lodge Hospice for every extra tonne of clothing and textiles collected from kerbside collections.
The donations will go towards supporting hundreds of patients and their families with life limiting conditions.
The scheme will roll out across North Lincolnshire over a six-week period and all residents will receive a scheme leaflet and a red bag through their door.
Textiles including clothes, shoes, handbags, belts, towels, sheets and blankets can be placed in the red bag alongside your kerbside boxes. Unfortunately we are unable to collect pillows or quilts.
If you don’t have a red bag, you can leave them in a bag clearly marked for North Lincolnshire Council textile collections. We are unable to collect textiles presented in charity bags. On collection, you will be left with a new red bag.
The bags are then sent to I & G Cohen, and the clothes are sorted and graded. Good quality textiles will be used to help disadvantaged people in Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia. The second hand clothing trade supports thousands of livelihoods by providing jobs in repairing and restyling.
Any low graded clothing and textiles that are damaged are sent to recycling centres to be made into cloths for use in the engineering and garage industry.
Cabinet member for Highways and Neighbourhoods, Coun Nigel Sherwood (Brigg and Wolds), said: "This is a wonderful scheme as it encourages more people to recycle and any money we can raise goes to a great cause in Lindsey Lodge Hospice. Old shoes, bags and clothes can help fund treatment or support somebody’s livelihood. I’d encourage residents of North Lincolnshire to get involved with this scheme.”
This is a trial scheme for  one year and will be reviewed in December 2014.

If anyone sees two plastic re-cycling boxes - one green, the other blue, they could be mine.
They've disappeared during the stormy winds - probably half-way to Barnetby by now!
I have a large black plastic bin in the back-garden - that's been flying about the place for ages - I did put some bricks in it to weigh it down, but now the bin and the bricks are flying about in formation!
