COUNCIL LEADER COMMENTS ON NATWEST BANK'S IMPENDING CLOSURE IN BRIGG

With NatWest planning to shut its Brigg town centre branch this month, steps are being taken to assist customers, as we revealed in a post a few days ago. Read about them here...

Coun Rob Waltham, who is the leader of North Lincolnshire Council, told Brigg Blog:  "NatWest have offered regular drop-in sessions in the Market Place which will go some small way to plug the gap."
He stressed: "We are deeply disappointed that NatWest have chosen to close the branch in Brigg.
"Many residents rely on the traditional banking services offered in branch and to leave a vibrant market town such as Brigg is regrettable."
When NatWest announced, some months ago, that the Brigg branch would be closing, some local councillors voiced concerns.
During a meeting of Brigg Town Council, Coun Waltham  indicated that the North Lincolnshire authority would be willing to make a building available to NatWest where it could assist Brigg and district customers.
The Brigg branches of Lloyds and Barclays continue to trade.
However, across the country, various banks operated by different companies have, and are, closing.
More people are using internet banking, reducing the demand for traditional counter services. This particularly applies to the younger age group.

Brigg has already lost its branch of HSBC, in the Market Place.

With its closure, the cash machine will probably be removed. I'm already concerned that with the earlier departure of the HSBC bank, the building has been left with two gaping holes, covered and secured with timber sheeting.
As both the Nat West and the old HSBC are within the Conservation Area, both will be compelled by our local authority to re-instate the affected featured stonework to an acceptable standard.
I hand this over to our North Lincs councillors who are known to read Brigg Blog.....is that correct, Cllr Nige?
