The Cone Hot-Line didn't last long - about 3 years....the government thought it a waste of time after receiving millions of orders for 'a 99 with a flake'.
The number, however, is still used for the Highway Agency - those guys who patrol the motorway system in Range Rovers.....wot their job is, I'm not certain, except when a car breaks down it is surrounded by a HA Range Rover with a pack of HA hi-viz clad figures milling about...For every car breakdown is it cost effective to use 4 wheel drive vehicle with a least 2 - and often more, HA personnel?
