LEWIS STRANGE: BRIGG ROTARIAN WILL BE A VERY HARD ACT TO FOLLOW ON COUNCIL
Brigg Blog has inquired about a local by-election being held to fill the council seat left vacant by the recent death of Coun Lewis Strange (pictured).
Coun Lewis, who played hockey for the Brigg club over many years and was a community-minded member of Brigg Rotary Club, lived in Searby and represented the Kelsey Wold Ward on West Lindsey District Council.
A spokesman for the Gainsborough-based authority tells us that this seat is being advertised within the ward and also on the authority's website.
"If an election is called it will not take place until 2021 as a result of the Local Government and Police and Crime Commissioner (Coronavirus) (Postponement of Elections and Referendums) (England and Wales) regulations 2020 and the Coronavirus Act 2020," the spokesman added.
An official Notice of Vacancy has been posted. It says: "An election to fill the vacancy will be held after notice in writing has been given to the Returning Officer, Electoral Services, West Lindsey District Council, The Guildhall, Marshall’s Yard, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, DN21 2NA, by two local government electors for the area."
Lewis, who died aged 77, will be a very hard act to follow on the council.
We played hockey for Brigg alongside him over many years, and also cricket together for Brocklesby Park. Read our tribute to him here...
