BRITAIN IN BLOOM JUDGE'S AWARD PRESENTED IN BRIGG

The green-fingered work of volunteers in Brigg town centre has been recognised.
A Britain in Bloom East Midlands competition Judge's Award has rewarded the "welcoming entrance" to St John's Church through its courtyard off Wrawby Street.
Coun Sharon Riggall, on behalf of Brigg in Bloom, outlined this achievement during Brigg Town Council's latest meeting, held on Tuesday evening.
Town Mayor Coun Brian Parker then presented the certificate to Keith Simpson, local Lay Reader (see picture above).
Keith was also at the meeting in his role as Chaplain to the Town Mayor and led members and staff in prayer at the start of the monthly session, held in the Angel building.

Brigg in Bloom has now informed residents that silver gilt and silver commendations were gained at the East Midlands in Bloom awards ceremony held in Loughborough.
In the small town category, Brigg in Bloom received the silver award.
Derek Capp, of Almond Grove, won silver for in the best front garden section.
Brigg Town Business Partnership was awarded a silver gilt certificate in the best business/commercial premises category.
The Lord Nelson, in the Market Place, was awarded silver in the best pub or hotel garden section.
The special judge's award for its welcoming entrance went to St John’s Church (mentioned and pictured above).
East Midlands in Bloom noted that the Brigg in Bloom team evidenced a good mix of excellent community involvement.

Coun Riggall, as chairperson of Brigg in Bloom, has thanked all groups and residents involved with the group for their continued support in the planting areas.

Meanwhile, the Town Council is funding future wild flower planting at Sir John Nelthorpe School - an order now having been placed for supplies. The Council is also looking to purchase fruit trees for the town (locations to be identified). Coun Rob Waltham has suggested putting aside £150.
Brigg and District Gardening Club will hold its first meeting of the autumn season next Thursday (October 6) at 7.30pm in the Methodist Church Hall, off Wesley Road (near the A18).
The club will welcome Gail Summerfield, from Westshores Nurseries, whose topic for the evening will be Gardening at the Front.
Everyone is welcome; admission is free to members and £3 for guests.
