Many Brigg people will have observed magnet fishing being carried out from, and adjoining, the County Bridge.
Lines are dropped into the River Ancholme to locate items which may prove of interest. However, as is the case with angling, most lines that are cast fail to produce any results.
The issue of magnet fishing was raised by Coun Ann Eardley during Brigg Town Council's latest meeting. Could something potentially dangerous be at the bottom of the river?
Coun Rob Waltham, who is the Leader of North Lincolnshire Council as well as being a town councillor, said magnet fishing was a matter for the Environment Agency.
Two years ago, when magnet fishing first came to our attention in Brigg, we checked with the Agency, which manages the river.
"Although the Agency does not regulate magnet fishing, it suggests that those engaging in this activity should get permission from the landowner and anyone with fishing rights in the area before participating," we reported in February 2020.
