BRIGG PUB SAYS WHEN IT WILL BE 'GLAD' TO REOPEN
A well-known Brigg pub has given customers an update about when it will be reopening after lockdown.
The Dying Gladiator, on Bigby Street, will stay closed today (Saturday, July 4), the date when the government has allowed UK bars to reopen, if they wish.
Mindful of his pub's popularity and the numbers likely to attend, landlord Eugene Irwin has decided not to open "for at least seven to ten days."
Eugene says his aim is to keep everybody safe. And as there will be lots of people out this weekend, he wants to let things settle down before re-opening.
The only Dying Gladiator pub in the entire country is housed in an 18th century grade two listed building within the Conservation Area.
The statue above the main entrance was inspired by one in the Vatican which art-loving former landlord William Clark (also a master builder) saw while he was touring the Continent in the 19th century.
