SHOULD 'LOST' BRIGG TREES BE REPLACED?

There are mixed opinions on whether new trees should be planted on the Newlands housing estate in Brigg to replace ones 'lost' for various reasons.
During Brigg Town Council's February meeting, Coun Ann Eardley reported that some residents wanted to see replacement trees. She felt this would help to deter the parking of vehicles on grass verges.
Her comments followed a mature silver birch on Birch Avenue being toppled recently during Storm Ciara and cut up later that afternoon by North Lincolnshire Council workmen as it was blocking the road.
However, Coun Carl Sherwood said not all residents supported the planting of replacements.
Coun Rob Waltham stressed that any trees that were planted needed to be of the right species. He also made reference to a current policy involving thousands of new trees being added across North Lincolnshire.
Town Mayor Coun Sharon Riggall suggested that any residents requesting replacements should contact the North Lincolnshire authority.
Coun Waltham, as the leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said the Brigg & Wolds Ward councillors would now "take up" the issue of tree-planting.
