SPADEWORK 'ON TRACK' TO CREATE NEW BRIGG ALLOTMENTS

A timescale for the creation of a new allotments site in Brigg has been revealed.
Details were made public during Brigg Town Council's January meeting by Coun Carl Sherwood, who is a cabinet member of North Lincolnshire Council as well as being a member of the town authority.
The long-established Grammar School Road allotments on land required for future development by North Lincolnshire Council will be replaced by new plots established on part of Woodbine Park between South View Avenue and Preston Drive.
Coun Sherwood said he had been assured by a North Lincolnshire Council officer that everything was on track.
A start would be made on the new site in February, with completion of the contract scheduled for May.
However, as North Lincolnshire Council has no immediate need to use the Grammar School Road land, tenants should still be able to tend their plots during the 2020 growing season. And they would be able to start working on their new plots on Woodbine Park.
Brigg Town Council also operates an allotment site on Atherton Way/Redcombe Lane which is unaffected by the changes being made on the northern side of the town.
Green-fingered residents interested in taking on vacant plots in return for a modest annual rent can email enquiries@briggmarkettown.co.uk
Many people are keen to grow their own fruit & veg for the table.
