BRIGG TOWN FOOTBALLERS STEEL THEMSELVES FOR SATURDAY'S GAME
Brigg Town Football Club has an away game at Parkgate on Saturday afternoon (October 5) in the Toolstation Northern Counties East First Division (3pm KO).
Formerly BSC Parkgate, the Yorkshire club is nicknamed the Steelmen and plays at the Roundwood Sports Complex, Green Lane, Rawmarsh, Rotherham.
Fans of the Zebras wishing to travel to the match by train from Brigg station should board the 11.48am Northern company service from platform two (the far platform), getting them into Sheffield at 1.17pm.
Remain on Platform 3B and board Northern's 1.30pm service bound for Hull, which reaches Rotherham Central at 1.42pm.
Frequent Stagecoach buses from the railway station run close to the Parkgate ground (five minutes walk).
Return trains are as follows: Depart Rotherham Central 5.58pm (Northern service), arriving at Meadowhall 6.05pm; board the 6.17pm TransPennine train bound for Cleethorpes, arriving in Barnetby at 7.18pm; time for a pint in the nearby Whistle & Flute; board the 7.43pm Northern train to Brigg, arriving back at 7.48pm.
Brigg Line rail campaigner Paul Johnson, who has kindly provided this information for Brigg Town supporters, says: "There is no direct fare between Brigg and Rotherham Central so you are advised to buy a return to Barnsley which will cover this route. If challenged by a guard, customers need to inform them of this non-available ticket."
In the Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincolnshire League Premier on Saturday, Brigg Town Reserves will be hosting Grimsby Borough Reserves at the EC Surfacing Ltd Stadium (Hawthorns) at 3pm.
In the EC Surfacing Ltd Scunthorpe & District Football League, Briggensians have a Division Two home game against Santon (3pm).

Talking of steel, Sunday (October 6) will see American football fans from Brigg and district heading for Quibell Park, Scunthorpe, to watch the new Alphas team hosting Hereford Stampede (2pm start) in what's billed as a Scunthorpe Steelers Reunion Game. Former gridiron players of the 1980s and 1990s are welcome to attend; some of them still live in the Brigg area. The Scunthorpe Steelers were North Lincolnshire's top team back then.
