BRIGG EXCLUSIVE: THE BED IN WHICH SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL SPENT A NIGHT IN OUR TOWN
Previously unpublished details about a war-time stay in Brigg by Prime Minister Winston Churchill have come to light, courtesy of Joe Mullen - today's owner of the Exchange Coach House Inn where the great war-time leader spent a night in 1944 when it was still the Exchange Club for gentlemen.
During an exclusive visit, we were permitted to photograph the bedroom Winston occupied and the actual bed he slept in!
Our story about Winston appeared recently as a three-page feature in the Scunthorpe Telegraph's Nostalgia supplement.
The story is now online and can be read through this link...
It has created major interest on the paper's website since going live on Sunday.
Most stories these days are posted online very soon after they come to light but this one has taken us a considerable time to crack.
With Joe's valued assistance we are pleased to say that we got there...eventually.
In the world of journalism long ago, slow-to-achieve stories used to be categorised as Sleepers - a very apt description in this case!
