BRIGG TOWN BEATEN IN FA VASE BUT BARNETBY TEAMS ARE UNITED IN VICTORY

 

Brigg Town Football Club gave it their best shot but lost 3-2 at Chadderton in the FA Vase second qualifying round yesterday (Saturday, September 14).
Some supporters of the Zebras made it across the Pennines to cheer on the team.
Brigg raced into a two-goal lead within 20 minutes, through goals by Stephen McCarron and Jake Reed.
Chadderton bounced back to level the scores before half-time and then came up with a winner late in the second period.
In EC Surfacing Ltd Scunthorpe & District Football League Division Two, Briggensians lost 4-1 at Limestone Rangers Reserves - Ciaran Savage scoring the Brigg side's goal.
Barnetby United Reserves triumphed 3-1 at Scotter United Reserves, Craig Hall, Daniel Newell and an own goal settling the issue.
Barnetby's first team, in Division One, won 2-1 at home to Limestone Rangers and head the table with maximum points from the opening two games.

RAILWAYMEN END WINLESS RUN AT 13TH ATTEMPT

The 1st team made it 2 wins from 2 in the 1st division and finally ended a 12 game winless run against Willoughton based Limestone Rangers.
Brendan O’Callaghan gave them the lead in the 15th minute from the spot after Cameron Hill’s exquisite touch from an Adam Mcguire centre resulted in him being brought down.
United failed to get any rhythm to their game though and Limestone consistently asked questions of the back line though stand in keeper Gunn held firm until a rash charge from his line resulted in a rightly given penalty.
The cross bar bore the brunt of the subsequent spot kick and Barnetby cleared their lines, eventually. Limestone then had a chance rightly ruled out for offside and the halftime scoreline of 1-0 to Barnetby bore no reflection to the 1st half proceedings.
Glentworth had replaced O’Callaghan on the half hour mark and Popple replaced Mcguire after 50 minutes but Barnetby started the 2nd half as they had finished the 1st and Limestone deservedly equalised on 55 minutes through Ben Johnson.
Injury was added to insult when captain Joe Scott left the game with a shoulder injury, this led to a formation change and the reappearance of George Merrick in a Barnetby shirt after 2 and a half years.
His first contribution was to float a free kick into the Rangers box which was met by the towering Glentworth whose nod down was smashed home by Alex Green on the half volley for the Railwaymen to retake the lead.
This sprung United into life, Forrest hit the bar and the Rangers keeper saved superbly from Hill and Glentworth. Wilson also saw a chance blocked as Barnetby bossed the closing stages despite not putting the game to bed.
The full time whistle was most welcome as it kept up a great start to the season and finally saw the Railwaymen end their winless run against Limestone Rangers.
