THREE GOALS BUT ONLY ONE WIN FOR BRIGG & DISTRICT LOCAL FOOTBALL TEAMS

Scunthorpe football league action pictured between Barnetby United and Scotter United on March 9, 2019

There were two defeats and a victory for the Brigg area teams in the EC Surfacing Ltd Scunthorpe & District Football League yesterday (Saturday, March 9).
In Division One, second-from-bottom Briggensians went down 8-2 at Limestone Rangers, with Ben Lingard scoring both the Brigg side's goals.
Elsewhere in the top flight, Barnetby United lost 5-0 when hosting Scotter United at Silver Street.

Barnetby's Lee Fielden has kindly supplied the match report below and the accompanying pictures seen here.
In Division Two, a goal from Ben Popple earned second-placed Barnetby United Reserves a 1-0 win at Epworth Town Colts Blues - the league leaders - enhancing Barnetby's hopes of securing the championship. The Railwaymen are now a point behind Epworth and have a game in hand on their Isle of Axholme rivals.

5 star Scotter shunt Railwaymen

Barnetby were no match for a title-chasing Scotter United who bounced back from their first league defeat the previous week in emphatic style.
Paul Reilly, with a header and a 30-yard free kick in the opening 10 minutes, effectively killed the game off as a depleted and reshuffled Barnetby side have been finding goals extremely hard to come by.
They did, though, settle into the game and a long range effort from captain Shaun Clark warmed the hands of Matt Lawson in the Scotter goal.
This was Barnetby’s best period of the game but their goal was leading a charmed life as Scotter spurned two gilt-edged chances.
2-0 down at the break and now kicking into a strong head wind, Barnetby failed to get going in the second half.
Adam Warriner and Paul Norris added to Scotter’s total as the took advantage of sloppy defending.
Paul Reilly had the chance to make it 5-0 and complete his hat-trick from the spot but his kick sailed over the bar.
He made no mistake minutes later, though, lifting the ball over the advancing Dobbs.
The result sees Scotter maintain their title challenge but worryingly leaves the Railwaymen one place above the drop zone.
