OLD FRIENDS REUNITED AT BRIGG RECREATION GROUND

Leaves are not yet showing on the trees that surround Brigg Recreation Ground but the new cricket season is not far distant, when the sound of willow on ball will be heard once again.
Pictured above is Brigg Town opening bowler Tom Brock, giving up some of his time on Saturday afternoon (March 2) to run the heavy roller over the playing square.
There were football and hockey matches going on nearby as he carried out this preparatory work.
So although Brigg Blog had to draw attention to no sport of any description being played at the Rec on a recent sunny Sunday afternoon, there was plenty of action to watch on this particular Saturday.
On the sidelines at The Rec, we met many familiar faces from local sport.
Among those there for the hockey were Peter Thompson, Adrian Pymm, David Baggott, Liam Redmond, George Armstrong (pictured below) and Adrian Broome; those watching the football included Tim Hartley, 'Gig' Smith, Simon Fisher, Mike Hartley, Lee Fielden (Barnetby United's manager), Craig Benson (Briggensians FC), Pat Neal, Col Mumby and Brigg Cricket Club chairman Mark Cawkwell.
Some we know from Brigg Town Football Club also popped over to The Rec for a time, as their home game at The Hawthorns against Lincoln Moorlands Railway did not kick-off until after Briggensians had played Barnetby in the local derby.
It was really heartening to see the turn-out of spectators - male and female - watching the hockey and the football. And, in some cases, both matches!
