A sporting group that has been hiring facilities in Brigg for many years has won a victory by avoiding an increase in charges.
Indoor bowlers use the main room at the Angel Suite for regular Monday sessions, but a Brigg Town Council review suggested councillors should consider a small increase "to reduce the level of subsidy required."
However, after hearing the contents of a letter from Freeman of Brigg, Tom Glossop, pictured above, the council decided not to impose a rise.
The letter was read to the meeting by Coun Penny Smith.
Attendances at the bowls sessions have declined over the years and the group is trying to attract new members.
It was pointed out that the group has paid a great deal of money in hire charges over a lengthy period, using a regular slot at a time of the week when few others might wish to use the Angel Suite.
Coun Ann Eardley thought the council should be supportive, while Coun Mike Campion called the bowlers "our most loyal customers."
Coun Rob Waltham said he could understand the business case for additional income, but in this instance he proposed leaving the fees at the current level.
This course of action was agreed.
Coun James Truepenny, on behalf of the council's Angel Suite Review Group, reported a good level of bookings and said the community facility was showing a profit.
The scale of charges for bookings are not being increased, but this is expected to be reviewed again at the end of the current financial year next spring.
Tom Glossop, pictured above, later told Brigg Blog that people interested in joining this group are welcome to attend sessions at the Angel Suite from 2pm on Mondays.
