WALKING FOOTBALL SESSIONS TO KICK OFF NEAR BRIGG
Brigg Blog has memories of 'walking football' while turning our in the back four of the Black Bull pub team on Sunday mornings in the 1980s. We never had much pace, especially after a Saturday night on the town!
Now walking football of a different kind is coming to the area, aimed at those who are 50 or older. We think quite a few people will be tempted to take part...
FROM KIRSTY WESTFIELD, NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE COUNCIL
New weekly walking football sessions will kick off at Ancholme Leisure Centre near Brigg from Thursday 4 October from 11am to 12pm.
Are you missing playing Sunday league football? Are you itching to get back on the pitch but are not able to play the traditional game of football? Give walking football a go – you don’t need to be fit or fast.
Walking football is an alternative option to play the game and is aimed at people aged 50 plus (but all ages are welcome), people with reduced mobility, or for other reasons are not able to play the traditional game.
It costs £3.50 a session. There is no need to book, just turn up on the day.
If you would like more information about the walking football sessions, contact the Active Communities Team on 01724 297270.
Cllr David Rose, cabinet member for Children, Families, Learning and Leisure, said: “Walking football is brilliant for people who love football but are no longer able to play the traditional game. Even if you haven’t played football before or for some years, you will soon pick it up. It is a great way to increase your fitness levels.
“A whole range of physical activity sessions are offered in North Lincolnshire to encourage people to get active and healthy. We recognise that people have different abilities, which is why we provide sessions like walking football in communities.”
Ancholme Leisure Centre is in Scawby Brook - car parking available.
