There's going to be plenty of interest shown in a new Brigg bar which opens its doors for the first time at noon today (Saturday, September 22, 2018).
The Stables is housed in the large brick building at the back of the beer garden at the Dying Gladiator, on Bigby Street.
Brigg Blog was invited along yesterday for a sneak preview of what's on offer.
How could we refuse such an invitation?
The Stables - housed in the former restaurant - is specialising in gin, rum, real ale and wine.
Manager Rebecca Donner tells us that 43 gins are on offer, producing printed lists containing full details of the brands.
Real ale being our tipple, we sampled a pint of Timothy Taylor's Landlord, kindly pulled for us by Lisa Kerman, who has taken one of the four new jobs being created by this new venue.
The temperature was spot on - not too cold - which is how real ale devotees tell us it should be served.
Doom Bar is the other ale currently on pump, while Peroni will be the premium lager of choice.
Those wishing to pass on alcoholic beverages will find tea and coffee available.
Eugene Irwin, the Dying Gladiator's general manager, informs us that local tradesmen have done all the work to create The Stables bar.
He's rightly proud of the venue's green credentials. Eugene is from The Emerald Isle and the vast majority of the furniture and wooden fittings have been fashioned from recycled timber.
Our eye was caught by an original table football game at the back of the bar. It has been refurbished, though the inlaid ashtrays can't be used by players in the modern era!
Rebecca says music will form an important part of the atmosphere at the new venue, with a piano and an acoustic guitar available on which customers can rattle off tunes of their choice.
'Open mic' sessions are to become regular features and anyone wishing to stage acoustic gigs is welcome to contact Rebecca for details.
The Stables is also a function room, available for family and group events.
There is large screen TV, while on display and available for sale are pictures by Brigg artist Kat Devai.
Food will not be available at The Stables, apart from hockey teas being served up on Saturdays during the season which is now under way.
Opening hours are Thursday 3pm to noon, Friday and Saturday noon to midnight, Sunday noon to 6pm.
If you are interested in one of the three vacant bar jobs, or know someone who is, applications forms are available on request by calling at the venue.
Brigg Blog will be returning tonight to take pictures of local people enjoying the new bar.
