NEW MAYOR OF NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE WELL KNOWN IN BRIGG

We can expect to see the new Mayor of North Lincolnshire making a number of official visits to Brigg over the next 12 months.
Coun John Briggs, from Crowle, was sworn in  at the mayor-making ceremony held at Scunthorpe Civic Centre.
Chosen charities for the Mayor’s Appeal Fund are Lindsey Lodge Hospice and The Fire Fighters Charity.
His partner Joanne Brown, the Mayoress, will accompany him on his visits.
The Mayor’s Chaplain is Reverend Graham Lines and the Mayor's Cadet is Jessica Hunt.
Coun Jonathan Evison, from Barton, has been appointed Deputy Mayor.
New Mayor of North Lincolnshire, Coun Briggs said: “My family and I are proud to live in North Lincolnshire and Axholme North; this is our home. It has been a real privilege to have been a ward councillor for the past 19 years. Joanne and I are very much looking forward to being ambassadors for North Lincolnshire in the coming year.
“It is going to be brilliant to get out and about, meet different people and raise as much money as possible for my chosen charities, Lindsey Lodge Hospice and The Fire Fighters Charity - both of which I am very passionate about.”
John Briggs was born in Sheffield and lived in Cheshire and Nottinghamshire before moving to Crowle in 1984.
He has been a ward councillor for 19 years and is a former town councillor and Town Mayor of Crowle.
He became founder chairman of Crowle and Ealand Heritage Society, Crowle and Ealand Regeneration Group and Crowle and Ealand Action Group Against Incinerators in Rural Areas.
He is also a member of:

  • The Isle of Axholme and North Nottinghamshire Management Board
  • Crowle Market Place Delivery Group
  • North Isle Partnership and Neighbourhood Action Team,
  • Hull and Goole Port Health Authority
  • Fire Commission
  • Yorkshire and Humber Employers Association
Coun Briggs has been the chairman of the Humberside Fire Authority for the past seven years.
Brigg Blog recalls some years ago when Brigg Town Cricket Club's fortunes were at a very low ebb and there was even a possibility that it might fold.
Keen to help, Coun Briggs hosted a meeting at the Recreation Ground, attending by council staff, other councillors and club officials (with Brigg Blog in attendance as we had sounded the alarm bells).
Today the club is back on track and the Recreation Ground has been transformed.
