IT'S BLACK AND WHITE! BRIGG & DISTRICT FOOTBALL TEAMS HAVE CAUSE TO CELEBRATE
It was a really great day for local footballers and fans on Saturday, April 7, with Brigg Town, Barnetby United and Grimsby Town all victorious. And all three sides play in black and white stripes!
How long is it since the Zebras, the Mariners and the Railwaymen all won on the same afternoon?
Many Chesterfield fans stopped off in Brigg on their way to Grimsby Town for the big relegation battle in League Two, which the Mariners won 1-0 with a late goal.
As a result, some Brigg food and drink outlets enjoyed unexpected boosts to their Saturday takings.
This Blundell Park success ended a very barren run for Grimsby, who have many followers in Brigg and district.
In the EC Surfacing Ltd Scunthorpe & District Football League, Brigg team Briggensians, who are second in Division Two, thrashed bottom side Santon 12-0 on Saturday.
The scorers were Ben Lingard (4), Matthew Eagles (2), Stuart Briscoe (2), Tom Raithby, Paul Neal, Matt Miller and Jack Lewis.
Barnetby Reserves lost 4-3 to Limestone Rangers Reserves.
The Barnetby goals were scored by Ross Hempstock, Josh Smith and Jonny Buckley.
Briggensians are in action again tonight (Monday, April 9) with a visit to league leaders Crosby Juniors. This is a very important fixture for both sides.
