BRIGG BLOG GETS ALL STEAMED UP & KEEPS A NEW YEAR RESOLUTION

One of Brigg Blog's New Year resolutions last January was to finally enjoy Saturday afternoon steam-hauled  rail tours of Scunthorpe steelworks - courtesy of the Appleby-Frodingham Railway Preservation Society (AFRPS).
We went on a railtour - seated in a passenger carriage - and later in one of those in which you ride in a brake van.
Brigg Tourist Information Centre, at the Buttercross, is the place to go to book tickets for both types of tour.
You get to ride round the steelworks, viewing the blast furnaces, the BOS steelmaking plant and the rolling mills. Plus parts of the massive complex that are no longer in use, such as the 'mothballed' plate mill, the former Redbourn works and the remains of the historic Appleby north works, whose blastfurnaces cast their last iron during the early 1950s.
Fascinating stuff!
The trips are FREE, donations being welcome on the day when you get back to the society's station, alongside Brigg Road, Scunthorpe (near the British Steel works' main office block at DN16 1XA -  plenty of car parking available).
We are pleased to announce the tour dates for the coming months.
Book your tickets in advance with staff at the Buttercross.
