BRIGG BLOG POSTS AN 80TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR TRIBUTE & SUGGESTS A SUITABLE PRESENT

One of Brigg's best-known town centre buildings has been serving the public faithfully for 80 years.
It started out as a fully-fledged Post Office but these days does not offer a counter service, though parcels can still be collected and letter distribution continues to be co-ordinated from the premises.
A picture of what was described as the new Brigg Post Office, on Bigby Street, appeared in the Hull Times newspaper during 1937.
Building work had started the previous year.
This is a fine, surviving example of pre-war architecture in similar style to the former postal HQ in Scunthorpe at the junction of Church Lane and Oswald Road.
Strangely, our old Post Office has never been afforded listed building status.
The 80th anniversary would seem an ideal time to add it to the list of notable and protected buildings.
Perhaps someone in authority will rubber stamp our suggestion!
Brigg's Post Office counter service is now housed within Martins shop on Wrawby Street.
