COUNTY CRICKET OUTING FROM BRIGG COMING UP

Using the CallConnect bus to Barnetby and then taking a TransPennine train, Brigg Blog had a very enjoyable day out last summer, in wonderful weather, watching Lincolnshire's Minor Counties cricket team playing a home match at Cleethorpes (pictured above).
Those from the Brigg area wanting to follow our lead this season should note that Lincolnshire's home game at Cleethorpes Cricket Club's Chichester Road ground this season will be against Hertfordshire on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday - August 13, 14 and 15 (11am start).
We intend to watch the second day.
If you'd rather drive from Brigg, there's plenty of parking available on the ground, which is not far from the seafront (turn right just beyond the resort's Leisure Centre).

FROM CHRIS KEYWOOD, LINCOLNSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET CLUB

Lincolnshire CCC begin their 2017 campaign when they host Cambridgeshire at Grantham CC on Sunday, 30th April (11 am start) in the first of their four group stage matches in the Unicorns Knockout Trophy.
Last year’s captain, David Lucas, has retired from Minor Counties cricket and the captaincy will now be held by Carl Wilson (Bourne CC), last season’s vice-captain.
Andy Carter (Bracebridge Heath CC), released by Nottinghamshire CCC, will form part of the County Club’s pace attack and the other significant signing is the former Derbyshire player, Matt Lineker, who returns to play for Lincolnshire after a three-year absence. He will also be playing his club cricket at Bracebridge Heath CC.
Matt Carter, who is in the second year of his contract with Nottinghamshire CCC, is likely to be available for all four of the group stage matches.
The County Club’s officials continue as in the past season - John Van-der-Vord as President, Chris Keywood as Chairman, Chris Farmer as Chief Executive embracing the financial and secretarial roles, and Mark Fell as Director of Cricket.
The team for the opening fixture against Cambridgeshire will be selected from the following squad:-
Carl Wilson (Capt and Wkt), Karanjit Bansal, Andy Carter, Matt Carter, Dan Freeman, Louis Kimber, Tom Knight, Matt Lineker, Jonny Tattersall, Adam Tillcock, Harry Warwick and Alex Willerton
Details of the Club’s 2017 fixtures can be found at www.lincolnshireccc.play-cricket.com
Just to explain, you can only get a direct passenger train from Brigg to Cleethorpes on Saturdays. Hence the need to get to Barnetby on all other days of the week.

Paul Johnson, of The Friends of the Brigg Line, sometimes makes reference to "Igloo Cleethorpes" but the temperature was well into the 80s last August when we journeyed to the resort by train for the Lincolnshire Minor Counties Championship match.
