BRIGG SUPPORT FOR GLOBAL HEALTH CAMPAIGN RECOGNISED WITH AWARD

Brigg Town Council's support for an initiative to eradicate one of the world's worst diseases has been recognised with an award.
Rotary Club's across the globe are raising funds for vaccine through the Purple4Polio appeal to get rid of killer disease polio, which is still present in a handful of countries.
Money and awareness are being raised by planting distinctive purple crocuses.
Many are now appearing in public spaces and gardens throughout Brigg, and that has been marked by the presentation of a certificate to Brigg Town Council.
At the start of Monday night's Annual Town Public Meeting in the Angel Suite, Brigg Rotary Club president Ambrose Fowler presented the award to the council, saying that 26,000 crocuses had been planted locally.
Ambrose is pictured handing over the certificate to Town Mayor Coun Ann Eardley.

  1. I'm sure there's no family connection, but there is another Ambrose, Ambrose Rookford (sometimes Rockford) who was a Gunpowder Plot conspirator. He was married to Elizabeth Tyrwhitt of Bigby.
He was hung, drawn and quartered on the same day as Guy Fawkes, unlike the other 2 local conspirators, John & Christopher (Kit) Wright of Twigmoor Hall....who were killed in a subsequent shoot-out.
However, technically, Guy Fawkes was not executed; he jumped from the gallows hanging himself.
The bodies of the Wright brothers were exhumed and their heads put on spikes on London Bridge.
Apart from the 13 principal conspirators, there were various other confederates, servants and associates who experienced the same fate - fined - or imprisoned...

Nothing to do with the eradication of polio....but thought I'd just jot the info down...
