FROM SARAH HOWE, NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE COUNCIL
The play area on Almond Grove in Brigg - locally known as Donkey Park - is to get a £100,000 upgrade.
The play area will be modernised and accessibility improved to make it fully inclusive. Following consultation with local residents, parents and children at Brigg Primary School, the junior play park will be jungle themed and there will be a wide variety of play elements for young children.
North Lincolnshire Council is funding the £100,000 upgrade which is hoped to be completed by autumn 2016.
Coun Carl Sherwood, from Brigg, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing at North Lincolnshire Council, said: “Local residents have been asking for this site to be improved for many years. The play equipment needs updating. Drainage, fencing and access are also current problems. All these issues will be addressed during the upgrades.
“The new play area will be much more modern and inclusive to all abilities. For many local children, it will be a dream come true.”
NF adds: Very welcome news for Brigg. Hands up if you are old enough to remember when you could actually see donkeys in this part of town. There was no Atherton Way back then and Barnard Avenue was a backwater rather than an A-road.
