"A reminder that Network Rail will be supplying replacement bus services between Brigg and Cleethorpes tomorrow (Saturday)," says Paul Johnson, of the Friends of the Brigg & Lincoln Lines pressure group, in a Twitter message posted earlier today.
Brigg Blog's understanding is that passenger trains from Sheffield will get as far as Brigg, arriving in platform one, then cross tracks to form the next train back to the steel city a few hours later.
Only three passenger trains run in each direction on a Saturday. But there will be added interest tomorrow for railway enthusiasts who are always on the look out for something very rare and highly unusual.
These unique circumstances have arisen because of the huge re-signalling project being undertaken over the festive period by Network Rail. This has seen lever-controlled semaphore signals replaced with colour-lights and the closure of faithful old signalboxes, including Wrawby Junction and Barnetby East. By the wonders of modern technology, signalling is now controlled from York.
Wrawby Junction was just a few months short of its 100th birthday when its reached the end of the line on Christmas Eve.
