There's a public consultation review of the Manchester-Sheffield-Cleethorpes service underway at the moment. It is feared the service may be reduced to Manchester-Sheffield only, removing the link to North and North East Lincolnshire.
Coun Mike Campion, of Brigg Town Council, indicated to his colleagues at their latest meeting in the Angel Suite that it was important to make a stand now.
His motion that the Town Council should treat the review "with concern" was supported.
Coun Campion said any change to the current "excellent, well-used service" linking North Lincolnshire with the west and Manchester Airport "would be inconvenient and damaging to our area where rail links are already very restricted."
Brigg Town Council agreed "to lend its support to all efforts by local MPs to oppose this change."
Coun Campion said the Sheffield-Cleethorpes service review came at a time when the Government was talking about massive investment in new railway routes elsewhere in the UK.
Deputy Town Mayor Coun James Truepenny, who used the TransPennine service often during his time as a degree student in Sheffield, said it was excellent and used by many young people.
Coun Rob Waltham said the consultation would end on August 18. "People need to respond to the consulation," he stressed.
The Scunthorpe Telegraph and the Grimsby Telegraph are publicising the campaign online and in print and are offering a form people can use to pledge their support.
