Brigg motorists have received sound advice from Ken Bates - once the high-ranking chief of police for the Scunthorpe division, now Neighbourhood Watch Development Officer.
Ken has issued the following warning:
There have been three instances in the past week (in Scunthorpe and the rural areas) where residents have been clearing their car windscreens of ice in the morning. The resident has left their car engine running outside whilst they went into their home to collect papers etc.. Whilst inside the house an offender has entered the vehicle and driven off in it . I know this sounds like a very careless thing to do, but in such circumstances people don't think it will happen to them. DON'T BE CAUGHT OUT. Stay with your vehicle while it is unlocked and the engine running - particularly if parked on the road, there are thieves about looking for such opportunities.
