If you are a young person in Brigg who wants to make a difference then the forthcoming Youth Elections are the perfect opportunity for you. Don’t miss the chance to have your say. But you will need to step forward before next Tuesday.
Young people aged between 11 and 18 can have a voice on important issues in North Lincolnshire by standing for the Youth Elections in May where North Lincolnshire’s Young Mayor and Member of Youth Parliament (MYP) will be elected.
A Young Mayor is elected by their peers to represent the views and interests of young people. The Young Mayor will be a serving member of the North Lincolnshire Youth Council.
They will serve a one-year term; some of their duties will include everything from attending the annual Youth Debate and acting as a role model to promoting mutual respect and raising awareness of the Youth Council.
The Member of Youth Parliament for North Lincolnshire stands to represent every young person in the area. Their work is mainly based on local issues that young people think need improving.
During their term of office, the Member of Youth Parliament works with their local MPs, councillors and youth groups on the issues of greatest concern to their constituents.
They will be a member of the Youth Council and work alongside the Young Mayor to bring matters of local concern to regional and possibly national attention.

Young people can get involved in the Youth Council at anytime even if becoming a Young Mayor or Member of Youth Parliament isn’t for you.

“It is the first time that North Lincolnshire will have a Young Mayor to work alongside the Member of Youth Parliament. This will provide invaluable experience for young people and allow them to raise their aspirations. It’s essential that young people have a voice both regionally and nationally.”
