Did you know? And not a lot of people know this... (With apologies to Sir Michael Caine).
Brigg Library, fronting on to Old Courts Road, was officially opened on March 14, 1989 by Coun John Considine, of Hull, the Chairman of Humberside County Council Leisure Services Committee.
I was one of the invited guests at that ceremony, representing the Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph, as it then was.
A very helpful chap, Coun John, when it came to dealing with the press.
His other claim to fame was looking a lot like me, or was it that I looked a lot like him? In addition, we both wore the same type of golden-rimmed specs.
He was a very important and high-ranking councillor, but he never looked down on me, although I had to look up to him. (Remember the comedy sketch featuring Barker, Corbett and Cleese?).
I often re-read chapters of John Rhodes' excellent book about growing up in Brigg between 1930-1950 and the other day I revisited a chapter in which he recalled joining Brigg Library when it was housed in what's now the Buttercross (upper floor). Later, of course, it relocated to the former school in Princes Street, in the building now occupied by Brigg Beds.
Some time in the not too distant future, we expect Brigg Library to be on the move yet again - this time to the lower floor of the Angel (entry through the glass doors from the Market Place).
Someone could write a book about The History of Brigg Library...

John Rhodes' book. He grew up in Central Square, Brigg.
