BRIGG BASH TOASTS LATE QUEEN

From Graham Austin

At Brigg Amateur Social Historians' October meeting Marilyn Roberts presented an illustrated talk on “The Life and Times of Queen Mary 1867-1953” which was enjoyed by an audience of about 70 people. She spoke of Queen Mary’s early life and of her marriage to King George V. They were devoted to each other; he called her “My Darling May”. Their children included Edward VIII, later Duke of Windsor and George VI, Queen Elizabeth II‘s father. Queen Mary was devastated when George died in 1936 and suffered another upset when Edward VIII, her eldest son, abdicated.
Queen Mary died in 1953, aged 85 years.
The next BASH meeting is on Tuesday 1st November. The title is Joseph “John” Merrick- “The Elephant Man” an illustrated talk by James Darby.

Pictured above during last night's BASH meeting at Brigg Servicemen's Club are (L-R) seated, Marilyn Roberts (speaker), Margaret Hodgeson; standing, Josie Webb (chairman), Lily Betts.
